Families are key sources of social support for the achievement of students of color. Along with common supports like praise and rewards, homework help, and buying materials, families of color use their culture to help students in school!  This "cultural" support is often overlooked in mainstream research on families. 


Help the FAM&I Lab understand the many different ways that YOU support your teens in school and in subjects like math and science!

We are recruiting pairs of parents and teens (in middle school or high school) to complete interviews and surveys about how parents help in school and how teens feel about their schooling and educational experiences and outlooks.

for young adults

The transition to "emerging adulthood" (age 18-29 years) is marked by social expectations to succeed as a well-functioning adult and a time to explore and understand one's identities. Important question at the FAM&I Lab are:
